Sinclair needs someone to catch spirits for him using a Spirit Cage for some ghastly research.

Varies depending on chosen difficulty:
1,000 exp and 500 gp for the simplest task (Ghosts).
3,000 exp and 1,500 gp for the more challenging task (Nightstalkers).
10,000 exp and 6,000 gp for the toughest task (Souleaters).
Also the achievement Afraid of no Ghost!

Required Equipment

Completed Research and Development Quest.
Travel money.
It might be a good idea to take some Food and Health Potions with you on missions 2 & 3.

Method

Find Spectulus and join the Spirithunters in the Edron Academy.

Mission 1

Find Spectulus, join the Spirithunters, and then help him use the Magical Measurement Device in the graveyard northeast of Edron, here. Use the Magical Measurement Device on all the graves (upon use, a Squidgy Slime is spawned, this used to be a normal Slime before Updates/11.02). Report back to Spectulus when you're done.

Mission 2

Speak with Spectulus about your mission. Agree on helping with the new Spirit Cage the Spirithunters have invented and calibrated, then go down to Sinclair and talk to him about his research. He will ask you to find a Ghost, kill it, and then use the Spirit Cage on the dead Ghost. Report back to Sinclair when you're done.

Mission 3

Speak to Sinclair. He will ask you to take the Spirit Cage and hunt some more Ghosts. You need to capture 5 Ghosts, OR 5 Ghosts and 5 Nightstalkers, OR 5 Ghosts, 5 Nightstalkers, and 5 Souleaters, in order to complete this mission. The more spirits you capture, the greater the reward will be in gold and experience. To get the higher rewards, you must capture 5 of each spirit - any less will not be counted when you return to Sinclair.

Completing this quest gives you the Afraid of no Ghost! achievement, even if you only bring 5 ghosts.

For capturing 5 Ghosts - 1,000 exp and 5 Platinum Coins
For capturing 5 Ghosts and 5 Nightstalkers - 3,000 exp and 15 Platinum Coins
For capturing 5 Ghosts, 5 Nightstalkers and 5 Souleaters - 10,000 exp and 60 Platinum Coins

Mission 1

Player: research Spectulus: Alright. Let's go. At first we need to find out more about ghosts in general. ... Spectulus: I still need more information and values to properly calibrate the magical orientation of orange and turquoise sparkle attractors which we will need to actually contain ghost-emissions. ... Spectulus: So are you in? Player: yes Spectulus: Good. Take this wand - we call it a spirit meter - and go to the graveyard I have marked on your map and take a few measurements on the graves.

After you have used the Magical Measurement Device on all the graves (4/4), head back to Spectulus.

Player: research Spectulus: Alright, now that we have enough results, the analysing can start. While I do this, I will need you to test the magically enhanced cage Sinclair developed to contain spirits effectively. ... Spectulus: Take the spirit cage from him and use it on the essence of a common ghost. Its essence will then be sucked into the cage and we can study him right here in the safety of the academy walls.

This is the same task as mission 3. You can take this task only once per day. If you speak to Sinclair and have not brought your Spirit Cage with you, he will give you a brand new one!
