TibiaWiki talk:Spell Animation Project
Very good idea! I would be happy to help. This page should be moved to something like TibiaWiki:Spell Animation Project and added on TibiaWiki:Projects.
You wanted some feedbacks on your ideas for the standards:
- I think creatures look best if they are facing south. The disadvantage with beams is indeed images with a high height/width ratio (the vertical page length will increase). But still I think this would be best.
- Can you make a list of all player and creature spells, to see which animations are still missing? So we can estimate the size of this project.
- About delay: I think CIP uses a default of 500 ms (for example, when walking). But I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for interest! I've done 3 animations already to test how long will it take. Here they are
- Sea Serpent Terra Wave
- Sea Serpent Ice Wave
- Young Sea Serpent Ice Wave
So it's actually not that hard, takes a bit longer with attacks which animations are bigger than 1 sqm (32x32) like in terra wave, because you have to be careful what overlaps what.
Also, since this is pretty plain, I'm using merely Ms Paint to edit frames, thats why I came up with and easy way to facilitate the work - make a 32x32 px grid and paste there sprites of consecutive animation frames, then remove grid, and the rest is done in gif program.
As for ice wave, since only difference was the monster, it took me a second to exchange one frame.
- Now about the facing, for me creatures look equally good facing south and east, so lets wait for more opinions to decide for good.
- I was thinking about the list, the best would be something like this:
#[[Creature]] *Fire wave *Fire ball #[[Creature]] *Energy beam *Energy hit
Is there an easy way to make it using some script/template?

To not let this project die before it started, lets put a poll on the main page so people can vote for facing south or east. This will have 2 effects: a good community decision can be made and we can attract more people to help out. Can you make an image of the sea serpent with his wave facing south?
I will move this page and start making a list, if you don't mind. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 08:51, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
The time that tibia c++ client use for item animations like small enchanted ruby is 540 miliseconds.
It just occurred to me that I could make a php page that generates the gif animations, should I create that? --Daniel Letalis (talk) 22:38, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
- When talking about standardisation it'd probably be the best solution. Like I said below, a pop up window when you click the name animation would be cool.

- What do you mean by "generates the gif animations"? Could it somehow automate the process of making frames, or just combine finished frames in a gif file?
- Concerning animation speed, for spells it's different than for items, for example this earth wave has 7 frames, so 0,5s x 7 = 3,5s which is obviously wrong. I think it's something between 0,1 and 0,15s for spells. And walking animation is completely different matter, as there are 4 frames (2 steps) per sqm so it in fact depends on walking speed.

I don't think there are many different timings for animations, I will write the exact times of some spells later.
About the "generator" it would be a site where you chose creature, spell effect, animation time, grid size, then it generates a grid with checkboxes to mark the spots where you want the spell effect. After that you press a button, wait some seconds and you get the final gif image. --Daniel Letalis (talk) 10:48, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
How?
How will these be incorporated in articles?
I like the idea but I don't think anyone is going to look at these images if not linked to on the creature page.
I would suggest a javascript to load an image when people click the link, but maybe that's too intrusive. -- Sixorish (talk) 11:55, June 30, 2012 (UTC)
Here's the animation facing south:
The poll is a good idea, moreover, concerning Sixorish's question, I thought every spell animation would be linked to corresponding spell from monster's Abilities. Then we could group all the images under few categories in separate article (this Creature_Spells) like waves, beams, balls, strikes etc. with even sub-categories including each element.
As for how exactly it would be displayed, either links, or small thumbnails somewhere on creature page, we could discuss pros and cons or make poll as well.

Imho it's far better to make it face east, because in most cases you block or run from monster that is facing east. For example if You are surrounded by drakens only two will be faced towards south or north while other 6 will be facing west and east. Yxil (talk) 10:43, July 5, 2012 (UTC)
- It'd be nice if there was a pop up window like with the minimap we've got.

In my opinion the best option is to make a page for each creature spell. For example the "Cloud Energy Beam" that warlocks use is now just a link to sorc's energy beam on the warlock page. And the creature spells page is now a bit messy, and frankly, pretty useless. As for facing south or east it doesnt matter a whole lot to me. I wouldnt like thin long vertical images but seeing the example for the south facing sea serpent posted here its not that bad. Featuring all the animations of a creature on a creature's page would make the page look horrible, especially for creatures with many area spells. foggy (talk) 22:51, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Invisible animations
How do we deal with invisible attacks? For instance the wiggler poison beam or (unless it changed) hff beam. I think we should use those black boxes that you see when creatures attack you in these cases. -- Sixorish (talk) 05:00, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
