Galthen was a Knight of the old King Xenom, considered a honourable strategist and very good tactitician. A lot of his story is learned through the Adventures of Galthen Quest.
Scarlett Etzel
Galthen was from Edron and was a loyal counselor to Scarlett Etzel, the Order's founded and leader. The Order of the Cobra Compendium books explains his role in the story of the Order and of Scarlett herself. He was extremely respected in the Order, and the only one able to challenge Scarlett. Not only he was her counsellor, but they were both in love with each other. Yet, they never confessed their love to each other due to duty and hierarchy.
When the Order of the Cobra was struggling to keep its activities, Galthen and Scarlett had a fall out about the best strategy to employ. Eventually, Galthen disappeared without a trace, never to be met again by Scarlett. Acording to some reports, Galthen apparently decided to go solo on his quest for magical artefacts. After Galthen left, Scarlett eventually came accross The Cobra Amulet, a powerful artefact that allowed her and her remaining followers to restore the glory of their order.
Scarlett still looks for galthen to this day. Anyone who puts on his chestplate will fool her for a second, enough to distract her leaving her vulnerable to attacks. If one manages to recover The Cobra Amulet from Scarlett and returns it to the crypt where it was found, it will reverse everything that happened to Scarlett and Galthen after it was taken. For them only, however., as written on the Note About Two Souls.
Bounac
It is known that Galthen spent some time doing research in Bounac, the bastion of the Order of the Lion. Although this has not been confirmed, it's likely that these events happened after he left the Order of the Cobra, since their Compendium seems to imply he was with the order since its inception.
Galthen went to Bounac looking for information about a "magical artefact". He met Kesar Etzel, the King of Bounac, who told him about a noble woman who had gone missing. He started to investigate the woman's disappearance, which led him into the Forest of Life. In this magical Forest underneath Bounac, Galthen learned about and studied in depth the Carnisylvans, sentient and intelligent beasts that, despite that, can be described as humans, who have undergone a severe but incomplete metamorphosis.
Galthen was not able to rescue the missing woman, but during his investigations he learned the truth about the events behind her disapperance. One of these discoveries was a ritual that can be performed in the presence of a Megasylvan creature in order to weaken it and make it vulnerable. This ritual was essential to the partial rescue of Yselda, betrothed of Kesar the Younger. Yselda was a direct descendant of noble woman whose disappearance Galthen helped to investigate, and she was also a victim of the curse that afflicted her mother and her grandmother before her.
The Planegazers
Galthen's quest for artefacts apparently led him to the Planegazers, at least to one of them. He met the most peculiar person in Carlin, and registered his meeting in a diary. After getting to know the man better, he was convinced that these Planegazers were more than a myth but an actual group of individuals.
Galthen's Death
It's possible that Galthen did not leave Bounac alive. Through An Idol in Bounac, one can enter the Deathling Menace area, where, hidden inside a dead tree lies Galthen's Satchel, containing an Artefact Box and a parchment. Galthen himself is buried in Crypt north of Edron, very close to the boat which travels to Bounac. His grave stone reads:
Here lies Galthen, venerable knight and cherished friend. Abstemious and humble he died in peace, yet never reaching the end of his life-long search for a long lost love.

is one of the Prime Artefacts Galthen was so interested in. In fact, he wrote a whole book about them. He also wrote a book about Magic Paraphernalia, some of which are artefacts themselves.
