TibiaWiki:Proposal for naming NPC articles
Proposal for naming NPC articles
To avoid overdisambiguation, I propose the following:
- An NPC named Bob should be at article Bob.
- Benefit: When referring to Bob in another article (wherein the reader already knows that you are discussing NPCs), you can link to Bob by writing Bob, and not have to use the annoyingBob
- NPC Bob will redirect to Bob.
- Benefit: This way, a new user (or somebody here for information only) who searches for an NPC's name with or without writing "NPC" before the name will be successful in finding the correct page.
- In the event that "Bob" may refer to more than one topic (which I, for one, haven't thought of yet) you can make a disambiguation page called Bob and have NPC Bob at Bob (NPC)
- Example: King Tibianus III has a dog named "Noodles". What if someday, there is a food item called "Noodles" that players can eat? Then you move Noodles to either Noodles (NPC) or Noodles (dog), depending on consensus, and put the food item at Noodles (food). Also clear the redirect at Noodles and turn it into a disambiguation page that links to the other two.
- Benefit: Then you can use the so-called pipe trick. Typing Bob (NPC)–note the pipe (vertical line) character "|" with nothing after it–automatically hides whatever is in the parentheses, making a link that looks like Bob.
