Notes

It's the final boss of the Primal Ordeal Quest.

Behaviour

It does not move.

Strategy

How to get to it?

  1. 1
    Ground
    • AThe way down to the steamboat dock

Edron and Cormaya are separate islands with open water between them, so either take the ship from Edron's harbour or walk through the Edron Rotworm Cave. Once on Cormaya, this hole at the end of Cormaya Street drops you the eight floors to the steamboat dock.

Within the Tides Quest All four missions — Of Feathers and Flowers, Coastal Concerns, Mountainous Matters and Star-Crossed Lovers. This is a hard prerequisite for Primal Ordeal, so the whole Marapur chain including Timira has to be behind you before a gnome will talk to you.

Primal Ordeal Quest Everything before Magmageddon. Find Gnomcruiter at the Noodles Academy of Modern Magic in Edron and ask to join, then report to Gnominer in Gnomprona with the keyword challenger and work through his errands — the Lazyfairies, the lost flame, the fireproofing, the snakes and the resonating stone — until the artifact is in place. The volcano does not open until it is.

    • AGurbasch — the steamboat captain

He runs the steamboat that serves Kazordoon and Farmine, and since the gnomes started digging, Gnomprona as well. Name the place and he takes you.

    Say to Gurbasch: hiGnompronayes

    • AStart here
    • BGo down

You land at the gnomes' dock. Gnominer is a short way south of it and Gnomfurry further south again; the cave mouth is just past Gnomfurry. You do not cross the excavation on foot — the way to the volcano runs underneath it.

  4. 4
    -8
    • BSparkling Pools — the east wagon, this is the one
    • CCrystal Enigma — middle
    • MMonster Graveyard — west

Down and a short walk south into the wagon chamber, where three ore wagons stand side by side. Take the right-hand one, on the east — the Sparkling Pools line — and ride it, then take a wagon twice more to keep heading south-east. The other two go to the other hunting grounds and are no use here.

  5. 5
    -8
    • AThe way up into Sparkling Pools

The third ride puts you at the far south-east end of the workings. Take the stairs up and you are in Sparkling Pools proper — energy and fire protection on before you do, because the whole area burns.

  6. 6
    -7
    • AStart here
    • BGo here

Then it is one straight run: eighty tiles due north, barely five of drift, over ground that is more lava than rock by the end of it. The volcano mouth is at the top, and five players go in.

The Gnomish Crystallomancer comes with you and the fight is lost the moment he dies, so nothing can be allowed to reach him. Past that it is three stages — destroy three Magma Crystals, then six of The End of Days, and only then does the boss appear — and the crystals sit in fire that takes 60% of your maximum health per second as unmitigable Agony damage. The shield points from the Charged Flames are the only way to stand in it, and you keep five in hand for the walk back out.
