Sometimes the name of a page isn't right. The MediaWiki software allows us to move a page to another name. The old name will then become a redirect to the new name.

When to move a page

A page should be moved if it's named incorrectly. This can be a typing mistake ("Blue Rope" instead of "Blue Robe"), incorrect capitalisation, and so on. Before considering a move, you should read the Standards on naming articles. If the name is still incorrect (for whatever reason), you can move it to the new name.

How to move a page

Near the "Edit this page" link, you'll find a "Move this page" link. When you click on it, you'll have the chance to input a new title, and a brief description of why the page is moved. The talk page assosiated with the page will be moved to the new name automaticly.

If a page with the same name already exists, you cannot move the old page to the new page. You have 2 options then:

  1. Copy the contents of the old page to the new page
  2. Request a deletion of the new page. After it has been deleted, move the old page.

The second option is preferred, because when you move a page, it's entire edit history is transfered too.
